Independence Day 2020 | 15 August 2020

Independence Day, the national holiday in India is celebrated on 15th August every year. Independence Day marks the end of British rule in 1947 and the establishment of an independent and sovereign Indian nation. August 14-15 is the anniversary of the partition of India and Pakistan at midnight. (Independence Day is celebrated on 14th August in Pakistan.) Independence Day is celebrated on 15th August in India. In 1947, after the British conquest and the beginning of British rule in the Battle of Plassey, the English East India Company began to gain control of the country.

After the Indian Rebellion, the East India Company ruled India for 150 years without directly changing the British rule (often referred to as the British Raj). The first independence movement started in the First World War and  Led by Mohandas K.Gandhi. He advised a peaceful and non-violent end to the British rule.

Independence Day flag-waving ceremonies, drills, and singing of the Indian National Anthem. Also, various cultural events are celebrated in the state capital. The parade was accompanied by members of the army and police after the Prime Minister attended a flag-raising ceremony at the historic Red Fort monument in Old Delhi. The Prime Minister then gives a televised speech to the nation, outlining India’s major achievements over the past year and outlining future challenges and objectives. Kite flying has also become an Independence Day tradition, with the sky being filled with different shapes, and colors.

Also, to celebrate this day, government offices in New Delhi are on fire throughout the holiday even though it is closed.
